The Sunday that Haley was here (May 6th) the little neighborhood of Fremont in Seattle hosted a “pop up” Food Truck Rodeo which I heard about through Facebook. Now, I try really hard not to watch the Food Network because it is basically food porn and it literally makes me want to eat the TV. I’m obsessed with Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives but it causes me to binge eat and drive anywhere near that has fried food so I had to stop watching. I have boycotted that station for several other shows like that “Big Bite” one where they find the biggest hamburger in the world and eat it or the show “The best thing I ever ate” I mean ARE YOU KIDDING ME. That network is just out to get me. However, when I did used to watch it I remembered a little show about Food Trucks and how they are the new “it” thing. So, of course I was totally excited to go see a bunch of these trucks at once and try a bunch of different yummy foods. Haley was down to go and my friend up here Angela decided to join us for a beautiful sunny afternoon in Fremont. (Just a side note about Fremont- it is considered one of the artsy neighborhoods in North Seattle and is home to the Fremont Troll which sits under the Aurora bridge. This troll is the neatest thing EVER and one of my favorite places to take visitors. Every city should totally have a troll under a bridge right? There are tons of bars, eateries, shops, brewery’s, etc. in Fremont including Theo’s Chocolate Factory which you may remember the hubs and I toured for Valentines Day this year. If you are coming to Seattle for a visit make sure you explore this area – it is truly unique.)
First off parking was a mess but we ended up snagging a good spot at a closed concrete factory a few blogs away from the area where the 20-30 trucks were which is NOT BAD in Seattle. I was a tad worried my car would be towed but we looked around and didn’t see any signs posted so we said, “what the hell” and started walking to the show. Let me just state that we have been getting AMAZING weather on the weekends lately- I’m talking sunny, 65-79 degrees, light wind, fresh air, ah it makes me so happy. After our short walk we had to go find Angela after dropping her off so she could go vomit in a porta potty. (She says it was from being car sick I say my driving is amazing and she was just making room jk jk) We found her happy as could be with a pulled pork sandwich and French fries in her hands after we waded through the 5,000 people that were there. Angela was feeling much better and ready for the next treat! We decided to walk around through all of the trucks so we could see what was offered. There were several options but to be honest I was kinda let down. I wanted crazy amazing things to be offered like gourmet grill cheeses, crazy desert trucks, insane French fry creations, massive nachos, cupcakes, etc. Instead, it was pretty much different variations on hamburgers, pizza, BBQ, Mexican, and Ice cream. It was still a lot of fun and I hear there are tons of food trucks that didn’t make it that day so hopefully next time I will find crazy trucks like I have in my dreams. Also, a lot of the trucks were running out of things with still 3 hours left to go for the day! If you know you are going to be at a Food Truck Rodeo for 6 hours you should bring more stuff! I realize there is only so much you can fit in a truck but seriously when I wait in line for 20 minutes for a homemade Ice cream cookie sandwich and the only damn cookies that are left are chocolate chip out of the original 6 choices AND only like 2 ice cream flavors left out of the 6 original choices I’m not to happy of a camper. I could talk for days about this event (it really was A LOT of fun and I plan on attending more) but I will spare you and just show you what we ate:
Haley & I with Mr. Bacon
Just one side shot of the festival there was soooo much more!
The view from my parked car
Such a pretty day.
This guy has CK's dream shirt. They'd be besties.
Haley, Me, & Angela!
Peanut Butter Ice cream & Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich
I'm not sure it was worth the 20 minute wait but it was yummy.
We all got pizza from this place...it was AMAZING and quick!
Haley got Pepperoni, I got 3 cheese, and Angela got the Pesto Chicken one. Haleys WON hands down for me because that pepperoni was out of the world but all three were delicious.
The pizza was cooked in that dome thing behind the girl. It made the crust super airy and crunchy!
I can’t wait for the next Rodeo and I hope to see new/different trucks and try some different things next time. I also hope CK can come to the next once because I felt like an asshole for wasting ½ of my cookie sandwich. It was so full of sugar I couldn’t finish it (seriously weird) and I just know he would have been all over it like Slade with a Housewife.
Do you like Food Trucks!?
If you are in Seattle what is your Favorite Food Truck that I should totally search for and find?!
(PS. I recently downloaded the EAT ST. AP for my IPhone offered by Food Network. Get it if you want to search to see if any are around the area you are in! Oh, and go like the MOBILE FOOD TRUCK RODEO Facebook page to keep up to date on all the fun!)

I feel ya' on Food Network. Every night, my husband puts it on Diner's, Drive Ins, and Dives right before we go to sleep. I have to mess around on my Ipad or read a book. If I watch that show, I will be so hungry and mad that I won't be able to go to sleep. LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I LOVE food trucks. I really want to go to Austin, TX for a food vacation. Their food truck scene is HUGE!
Greatest garlic fries in the city. No lie. I don't yell that products about just anything. It's garlic flakes combined in, not just spread on top and making you clinging after a few munches.
