Not sure if I've blogged about it before but one of the things you should know about me is that I paint.
Black light paint!
I love art (in all forms) but painting is the one I think I'm best at and enjoy the most. I can't paint you a life like portrait, I can't do landscapes, or animals - my area would be abstract. I love movement, texture, vibrant colors and the bigger the better. Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh are my favorites and they are the reason I fell in love with Impressionism. Not saying that my work is anywhere NEAR theirs; they are simply my favorites and who I draw inspiration from.
I paint to relax, to have fun, and to get my creativity out!
Another perk of this hobby is getting to sell some of this work and the thought of something that I created in someone else's home; when they look at it they love and cherish it and that makes me so incredibly happy and grateful. I started doing art shows about 2 years ago and they are really fun but incredibly exhausting. I slacked off with my involvement in art shows when I got engaged so that I could focus on planning my wedding but now that, that is over I'm back!
Our itty bitty town has a new street fair going on every Thursday for the month of July so I got in touch with the people in charge and decided that I wanted to set up my booth. Today was the first day and right after work I drove downtown to set up. This is a new event and not a lot of people came out tonight I'm hoping next Thursday will be much better.
I managed to get the hubs to snap a pic of my tent - he's a keeper.
Excuse the crappy camera phone - oh and me trying to be cute.
I'm not going to sugar coat how lackluster the attendance was tonight I painted 1 face out of about 8 children. Granted the okay part is that I didn't have to pay to set up for this fair and I'm assuming it is going to grow (fingers crossed). I met a couple of new people and made some contacts so all in all it was a good evening in downtown Laurel.
I urge people to support your local artists (in every form) and get out of your house. The worlds a big place and nothing happens until you make it.
I'm sure I'll have better post next Thursday - they have music at this street fair and the hubs is scheduled to play.
Hopefully that means lots more faces and lots of sales!
Happy Thursday Everyone - PS. Tomorrow is Friday!!!
