Ballyhoo!

It’s Monday again… don’t we all just LOVE Mondays? Mines been pretty shitty so far but one thing that’s making it a little better is music from one of my favorite bands:

No, for those of you in south Mississippi I’m not talking about that store that carries Vera Bradley and Yellow Box shoes on the side of 49N they are a band and a pretty damn good one at that. Defiantly way better than yellow box shoes. (Yuck) Ballyhoo! is a band out of Aberdeen, Maryland and they have been touring the last few years non-stop. I had the chance to see them but stupidly “had too many” and missed their show 2 years ago on 4/20. I curse myself every single day for that but the fact was I didn’t know who the hell they were at that time but now, well that’s a different story. These guys have gotten me through many, many miles running and lots of road trip miles driving. Their infectious sound makes me long for summer and doing nothing but having a good time with some good friends. They recently played with 311 & Slightly Stoopid on tour and they are two of my favorite bands if you throw in some Ballyhoo! talk about a concert I would have loved to seen. I can’t wait for these guys to hit it big it's only a matter of time, mark my words.

They are about to drop a new CD  and are currently on LAW RECORDS (how badass) and I am so pumped to get it! Check out one of my favorite songs (Paper Dolls) off of Cheers! I LOVE running to this song it pumps me up every. single. time.

"It's okay fake bitches because I can write toooo!!!"

Chad Knight

It's time for My Music Monday!

I'm featuring someone pretty awesome today. He's really cute, a total sweetheart, incredibly talented, and one of a kind. Okay, so I might be a little bias considering I married him but come on... you all knew it was only a matter of time before I featured him on MMM.
It's my hubs, the one, the only, CHAD KNIGHT.
(He's the one in the middle)

His music style is like what would happen if someone took a big bowl of Sublime,  Everclear (not the booze), & Brantley Gore and mixed them together to form a 90's gooey cookie of good times. It amazes me every single time he is sitting on our couch playing the guitar and he comes up with new chords to a song he hasn't even written yet. How people create music is truly magical to me. Maybe it's because I could never do that or maybe it's because it's being created by someone that I am so in love with but watching someone create music is the most beautiful thing. I promise you though my musical taste (which I believe to be very good) are not swayed by the fact that I married this man. I swear on my blog that I would Never marry a shitty musician, he is legit. Too legit to quit that's for sure. I want him to follow his dreams and hopefully soon those dreams will lead the pathway to somewhere new and somewhere filled with opportunities.

Check out his music, and remember his name because I swear: you might not be screaming it later but you will be hearing it again, and again, and again.

Charlie Mars

I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music. - Billy Joel
It’s Monday again and the only thing I’m looking forward to is sharing another favorite of mine with you. (Oh, and that I’m going to see the Smurfs in 3D tonight with the hubs and some friends. Hello, childhood!) For today’s round of My Music Monday I want to introduce:

I had never even heard of this cat until my husband made me listen to him. Charlie is from our small town of Laurel, MS and much like my husband started playing everywhere there is to play locally and throughout the south. He’s been in the industry awhile but the most “famous” he has made it would have to be the video for his song “Listen to the Darkside” featuring his girlfriend Mary Louis Parker from WEEDS. (Helloooo Charlie you’ve made it right there!) But back to the music… it’s beautiful. There is simply no other way to put it. His voice is like drinking a cold glass of sweet tea in the hot Mississippi summer time where you feel the sugar running down your throat and the craving for more just won’t stop. Every note he sings I feel emotion through and his lyrics take me wherever he wants to go whether that is to Bay Springs Road or to the BackDoor.

I’m not a lover of Mississippi or the simpleness that is country life but damn
Charlie makes me remember how sweet that simpleness is. I look around and actually appreciate it when I’m here because it is after all, Home. He sings about home a lot and his new album “Like A Bird, Like A Plane” and I have simply fallen in love. Anytime I’m driving home to Jackson I go the “back way” which is through several small towns and lots of green fresh forest that really is the only beauty you will find in Mississippi. His songs fit perfectly with this drive and make me fall in love with him over and over again.

I hope to see him one day in concert- right now I think he is touring with Hanson across the country but I have a feeling his show would be better in a small bar or pub where it’s dark and the only thing you hear is his voice crawling over your skin making you remember how beautiful music can be.

My only complaints of Charlie is that he won’t tweet me back (butthead) and I’ve heard numerous times that he is an asshole from local bar owners and other people that we know locally that grew up with him. I pray these are false accusations and hold out hope that he’s just misunderstood. (I mean, I totally would make him be my friend if I got the chance…whether he wanted to or not!) He recently asked for fans to donate for his next CD and boy did they…people love this cat you MUST find out for yourself right now.

GO spend your money on all of his CD’s; you will NOT regret it and you will fall in love with him, Asshole or not.
