I Love Kickboxing

Lets play catch up on my workouts-
I've tried a lot of different workout classes over the last few years but the one that has actually changed my life is Kickboxing. Let me back up and explain how I got to this point for anyone who feels like they don't know where to start when it comes to working out. I say this a lot but if I can get out there and do it anyone can. I had a lot of small accomplishments in order to get to this point because I'm going to be pretty blunt and own up to the fact that I'm REALLY focused right now. Pretty much my entire life is about getting healthy and in shape and the rest of my life will probably have to be this way in order for me to stay in shape once I get there. That used to upset me but then I put my big girl panties on and realized, this is my struggle. My "thing" in life that I have to deal with and I'm okay with that because I think everyone should be concerned about their body. It took awhile but I finally get that WE ONLY GET ONE in this life. I'm now obsessed with taking better care of it and I guess now that means I'm the girl at the party that tells you how sore I am. Whoops.
Okay, so back to the small accomplishments... I've been trying to get back in shape for the last two years. The first thing I did was learn how to eat salads. Yes, I know that sounds stupid but I didn't like to eat them. Now, I eat them and surprisingly, I like them. That was over a year and half ago. Then I gave up drinking soda - like all soda, diet included after reading a few horrifying articles about what they do to your body. (dare you to Google it)  It's been over a year now and I don't miss it at all. Next, I started trying out different gym classes; I found yoga and body works at my local LA Fitness and I went regularly for almost 2 months until teachers changed and I lost interest. However, that helped me realized that I could keep to a schedule. I could be committed, which was a pretty new thing to me at the time. I've always started to try and get in shape then I would stop. I recently realized I can't ever stop -- If you never stop, then you'll never fail or so some bumper sticker I read once said.

(Apparently Albert Einstein said it!)

After that realization I got a few workout apps for my phone and started doing 30 Day challenges at the beginning of this year. I completed several months of these and it just kept building my confidence. Even though I STILL wasn't losing much weight I was doing a lot of work and prepping myself for the next phase. In May, my friend Terra told me about a kickboxing class she tried. She said it was miserable and seemed like something I would love. I was immediately interested (I GET TO HIT THINGS!) and talked to Chad about it to see if he would do it with me for 10 classes that I was going to get with a Groupon. He was as always fully supportive and off we went to our first classes before our cruise to Alaska. (May 2014) We were immediately hooked. The first class had me questioning my sanity and I had never felt that sore in my life but at the same time it was incredibly fun. I learned how to properly hit someone in the face and we quickly blew through our 10 classes within a month. I decided I had to join. Chads schedule didn't work well with the class times so sadly I joined alone but now 6 months later I am happily 36lbs lighter and a whole lot stronger.
Fat face be gone!

Keep in mind I also started doing a low carb diet in June which is a HUGE part of the pounds I have lost. I will post about my diet soon but always remember it is 80% diet & 20% exercise. I used to get so angry with myself for working out as much as I did but never being able to lose weight. It's because my diet was crap... I mean I can work out for an hour and still eat 4,000 calories a day RIGHT?!!? No.
Lets get back to kickboxing... Classes are CRAZY! The first 15 mins are running around doing push ups, crunches, planks, squats, lunges, burpees, you name it in bursts of time. Then you get a water break, then you get to stretch, and THEN they let you hit things! I love the bag rounds. It's 6 different rounds of punches and kicks with the 6th round being a SPEED round where they threaten you with burpees if you stop doing what your doing at any moment during the final 60 seconds. Oh, and they punish the whole class if one person takes a break so it happens on occasion. Damn newbs. Just kidding - everyone is super supportive in and out of class and I have to admit moving away from this gym is really hard. So many of these people inspire me and it's so nice to have a group of people that are just as motivated about being in shape as you are. A part of me wonders if I can push myself on my own the rest of the way but then I know... I can and I will.
The Thanksgiving morning class was packed.
What I like/will miss most about this gym is the people. The trainers and members are fantastic. I feel like I have this second family who is just as interested in kickboxing/fitness as I am. These new friends who you do all these intense things with and who you see a few times a week. I know it sounds crazy but these people have become a part of my every day life for the last 6 months and I've learned so much from each of them. Kickboxing has made me really happy and I think that's important for anyone looking for motivation - you have to find somewhere that makes you happy and that makes you want to work harder. Each time I go to class I know that they are going to push me... they know when I'm not hitting as hard as I can because I'm being lazy and they will yell at me "HARDER" in a heartbeat. It's become a tradition to laugh and say, "Oh that was too easy" at the end of class when in reality I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to steer my car when I drive home.
We all stalk each other on Facebook too. At first, I thought I was the only creeper but then the meanest of all the teachers started stalking me and I love it. Shelia, who just won 2nd place Best Fitness Instructor in Western Washington is the toughest instructor I've ever had. She is fantastic at scaring the crap out of people in all the right ways. (Not actual crap on the floor... although... it's possible) She's also the most down to Earth person I have met in a really long time. She is in amazing shape but she constantly works to be better while encouraging everyone around her to do the same. By encouraging I mean giving her signature "f*cking do it" face. She has competed in two fitness competitions since I have known her and watching her journey has been inspiring and hilarious. I didn't know the bitch cheated! She told me that one day and I was like, "Whattttttttt I thought you were perfect?!" I love the realness. Hopefully, she doesn't mind me blogging about her and if she does I probably have a bunch of burpees in my future.

Seriously though, she is awesome and has inspired me so much! I refuse to get sappy and type all the disgustingly mushy things on here but, thank you. When I joined up you said, "Girl, do you know what I can do to you in six months!?" and I was so excited to find out. Thank you for pushing me get to where I am today and giving me to the tools to know how to get the rest of the way on my own. I'm not sure what got you into fitness but you have helped me realize how strong I am and I am forever grateful for that.

Kickboxing has been amazing and I plan to get a bag and continue even after the move. It won't be the same but I've got enough commitment and know how to keep pushing. I've also got about ten friends on Facebook now that will harass my ass if I don't!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving you filthy animals!

Today is my CHEAT day and I'm gonna eat all the carbs my chubby little hands can grab. Okay, not really but I'm going to enjoy today completely. I'll be honest and tell you guys Thanksgiving has never been my favorite holiday (Probably because I don't like Ham or Turkey or Dressing or deviled eggs or potato salad or green bean casserole etc. etc.) but I am one of the most thankful people you will meet. At least I like to think so. I'm so thankful for so many things and below are just a few:

  1.  God  - every SINGLE thing in my life he gave me and it brings me to tears when I think about how truly blessed I am by him.
  2. Chad Knight - aka my husband, that ole ball and chain puts up with my crazy ass 24/7. Bless him.
  3.  Family - you guys are crazy... absolutely crazy but I LOVE every single one of you to the moon and back. I can't WAIT to be closer to everyone and see those pretty faces daily.
  4. Olive - my little fur ball full of love. She's crazy too and fits right in with the rest of us. I often freak out about how I am going to live once she dies... She's only (almost) 5 and I know I have at least 10 more years but WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?!?!!? Don't ever leave me snuggle bear.
  5. My body - it might be far from perfect but I have learned how to love it recently and I am so THANKFUL at how resilient it is. I promise to show it more and more love and to take better care of it for the rest of my life than I did the first 27 years.
I could keep going on and on but lets just keep it at 5 for times sake. Now, stop reading this blog and go spend some time with your loved ones!

PS. Here is my favorite way to destroy peoples holidays:
Now, I'm going to tell you how much you would need to work out to burn off that Thanksgiving meal!

Who wants to go play Flag football with me for an hour, then 2 hours of walking, and 2 more hours of weight lifting... can you see what I'm gonna be eating now. Oh and 50 burpees for some GRAVY. Oh hell no.

Well, that was refreshing.

Hi guys!

So, I've found myself missing blogging lately. I started blogging way back in 2011 and after reading all my recaps randomly, I realized how freaking horrible I am at spelling and grammar but also that I miss having those recaps! I put commas in all the wrong places - sometimes I forget letters - I like to add dashes when I don't know if there should be a comma or whatever - but you get my point right? Oh well, who cares if you do or not. It's not like this blog will ever get to be anything other than a memory book for me which is A-OK.

I have "met" (followed/stalked???) so many of you guys out there in blog land and I LOVE getting updates into your life and I want to share mine again. Well, some of mine. I really just want to talk about food, working out, traveling, reality tv, movies, oh and my dog. LOTS of my dog because lets be honest I have no tiny humans yet and that little furry bitch is my heart and soul. I can call her a bitch because that's what she is (A FEMALE DOG) so if any of my husbands family is reading this know I love you but I cuss and #icantstopwontstop #iwillstopwhenwehavekids #maybe.

I also really like hashtags but only on instagram (FOLLOW ME @crazythoughs) and twitter but honestly 98% of my tweets are instagram posts I send to twitter.... anyone else?

Okay, so lets get to it. What have I been up to for the last 9 months? Not having a kid I'll tell you that much. I realize it's been 9 months and you guys might be expecting some exciting photos coming about a baby that looks like me -  but no... not yet. While everyone else I know is having kids - I am not one of them. Now, with that being said -- I've been super busy! I took the last 9 months to really find myself again. As an adult this time - ridding myself of negativity - self doubt - worry - and a few pounds. Okay, lets be honest I still worry and have self doubt but I'm a lot better! I got bogged down with blogging and lost the FUN part of it where I get to try and be funny and sassy and make someone else laugh. I've always wanted my blog to be a happy place and it's hard to front happiness when you're a tad depressed ya know.

Since I stopped blogging I started working out like a crazy person. I found Kickboxing and Pole class (Click that link and you can see my TEACHER in her little intro video - she is one of the most amazing women I have ever met FYI) and I stopped eating carbs in June. I know... I have no idea what is wrong with me but I have never been happier. I've lost 36lbs in a little over 5 months - I'm smaller than I was on my wedding day and I can do burpees! Well, like 3 good ones before I start crawling up instead of jumping but hey - I'm a freaking badass. Getting rid of this weight on my body has been a lifelong struggle for me but I finally feel like it's coming full circle. I got this... for the first time in my life I KNOW I can do anything I set my mind to. I blogged a lot before about running and trying to lose weight so I'm sure you guys remember (unless you forgot about me then shame on you) but there came a point where I just felt like a failure. I hated blogging about fitness when I wasn't a good example and not getting any damn results. NOW, I have proof - I have success - I have motivation - I have drive. I've still got about 60lbs I want to lose... but in the end it's not even about a number anymore it's about my health. That was my turning point. Thank God I didn't have any health issues that promoted this change in mindset - it was just after years and years it' finally clicked. That is what I have been up to for the most part since I've been gone. Focusing on myself and my health 110%.

This one is the most recent from yesterday! Look how big my ass was! UGH! It's still big but man... I love it so much more right now comparing these two pictures. You can see my entire fitness journey this year on Instagram if you look for #crazythoughsgetsfit and follow me @crazythoughs - I LOVE me some instagram.

Some other bullet points to catch you up and then I'm done with this "catch up" business (unless you have questions for me then comment below and ask and I will be happy to answer) :

We have been traveling like crazy! In June we went to Alaska on a 7 day cruise which was Amazing. Then we took a few trips to coastal Washington throughout the summer/fall - I don't care that the beaches are cold and gray they are some of my favorite ever. There is nothing better than loading up my car for a quick overnight trip 3 hours away with my husband and the little bitch. Watching Olive run around like crazy in the sand gets me every time. Also, those food adventures of trying to find the BEST local pizza and homemade desserts with my husband (Cheat days! - FYI - I get 1 a month and we make it count!) are what make these trips fill my heart with happiness. If only every day could be a vacation day. I'm sure there are other trips I'm leaving out but just know we have been on the move. Last month we went to Denver, CO for the first time together... Chad booked a few shows (he's a musician remember) and we had the best long weekend ever catching up with old friends and making a few new ones.

We also have had tons of visitors up here and we JUST made the huge announcement that we are getting ready to pack all our crap up again and move across the country BACK HOME! I know, it seems crazy to some but after 3 years in Seattle we realized where we want to settle and that is smack dab in the middle of our crazy family. It's fast paced up here y'all, we have done/accomplished so much it makes my head spin. I'm so thankful for these experiences and I'm so EXCITED for what's to come next. I'll share more of that later but just know we have major plans for Laurel, MS.

We have the best family and friends. Seriously, you guys are golden. Andddddd I think that's enough for today. I'm not promising to post 5 times a week but I will get at least one post up a week and hopefully more. I missed this... strangely enough but everyone needs a breather at one point or another right?

#crazythoughsgetsfit

If you follow me on Instagram you already know that I've started using it as a place to post my fitness journey. I wasn't posting very much and then I thought, hmm it would be a good place to post obnoxious amounts of fitness crap. I get inspired by seeing/reading about other peoples journeys and to be honest I want you guys to keep me accountable. I'm not on weight watchers or any certain diet I am changing my lifestyle one step at a time. I started the couch to 5k program to get me up and running again (pun intended) because running really helps me lose weight. I'm also taking on 30 day challenges this year to keep me doing something active everyday. It's been almost 2 weeks and I have to say I love it. I've discovered that I love workout apps and getting those little check marks everyday is so addicting. I will post from time to time on the blog about different workout things but if you want to follow my entire journey follow me on Instagram and check out my own personal hash tag #crazythoughsgetsfit.

In other news -- to further inspire my running training I just purchased some new kicks and what will hopefully be a fabulous new bra.

Who doesn't love new workout gear to get inspired by?!

What workout apps do you use? I'm always in need of advice so, give it to me below!
