Sureeee, why not?
Let me just say this first:
This was the dumbest idea I have ever had and I still can't believe my Husband, Mother, and Best Friend agreed to this... they should have just slapped me but no we ended up driving 1,030 miles in ONE DAY. We were seriously driving from 5:30am to 5:00am the NEXT morning. Now, let me explain...
After visiting Mt. Rushmore and Devil's Tower we were exhausted, grumpy, and I was ready to kill everyone and anything I came into contact with. The theme for this Road trip was, "Don't poke the Bear" and I was the bear. Anytime anyone would start irritating me I would say "Don't poke the Bear" and it would be a funny way to relieve tension. Well, the bear was poked and about to eat every human in sight so we decided to cut our day short and stop in at a hotel in Sheridan, WY. This was a decent hole in the wall motel and Haley was sure she was going to be murdered but alas, things were fine. We woke up EARLY the next morning and skipped the workouts so that we could get on the road quicker. Our original goal was to get to Seattle the next night around 1AM. Little did we know what was in store for us that day.
The RED marks our route through Yellowstone National Park
It is all Yellowstone's fault you can't drive fast through there and it is GIGANTIC. It was beautiful don't get me wrong and I am glad that we went through it and saw what we did but CK and I both agreed we would be fine with never going again. Freaking wilderness.
We hit the road early and the outfit theme for this day was comfy, comfy, comfy, and warm.
Sweats and hoodies/jackets it is!
Coffee and Hot Chocolate CHECK!
Then we headed to Cody, WY where we didn't realize we would be driving UP and DOWN a Icy, Snowy MOUNTAIN. Haley was driving and when the light rain started not hitting the windshield anymore I realized it was now snowing... once I told Haley this she denied it the proceeded to freak out about going up the Mountain in snow. It was then my turn to drive again... and a photo op:
Snow!
Olive wondering what the hell is going on
Things were fine until we started getting higher and the roads started getting whiter...at one point we seriously couldn't see the road at all BUT Momma and I pulled us through and eventually we got to Yellowstone.
Sweat pants do wonders for your figure people.
It was an absolutely beautiful drive
Hello, Yellowstone!
Sulfur filled the air (it is on top of a Volcano!)
My little happy family
Then we decided to get wild and climb on top of the rocks and my mother was NOT happy about it but all was well nothing exploded and no one died.
"Look Ma, No Hands!"
The geysers were absolutely beautiful
Journey to the center of the earth
How beautiful is this? Not me.. my mom and the Lake behind us
I was hoping to see a child demonstrate this. I'm evil I know.
Then we waited for an HOUR AND A HALF to see OLD FAITHFUL blow.
She took forever and we didn't end up getting out of the "park" until 4:30pm.
We were supposed to leave by 1pm at the latest. Set back #1. While we were waiting for the geyser to blow a bunch of Buffalo Roamed near us and freaked me out. They were HUGE and less than 300 yards away from where we were sitting. People were actually walking right up to them... I was waiting for this one chick to get trampled but she was lucky that day.
Then she BLEW!
Still blowing... she lasted around 20 minuets.
Then we had to hit the ROAD. At this point I was still under the impression that we could get to Seattle around 1am and get to our friend J's house but little did I know... LITTLE DID I KNOW.
Oh, and I bet you're thinking... Wow this is a really long post I hope it ends soon. Oh NO people. This post will reflect the day we had and we are only at 4:30pm.... mahahhahaha.
It took FOREVER to get out of Yellowstone and up to Montana but but when we did we had to stop for another road sign picture:
Looking bald and fabulous.
Driving across Montana took forever but then we hit Idaho and we all knew that we didn't have a long time to drive to get to Washington! It was late, like 11pm, CK had already driven on the WRONG side of the Interstate once... and we were all about to fall asleep at the wheel but we couldn't stop. I refused to be 3 hours away and get a hotel room. (I'm an idiot and it was more like 5.5 hours away!)
That didn't stop us from pulling over in the middle of the night on the side of a Mountain to get the IDAHO state sign pictures!
We were delirious at this point.
Crazy people!
We got back in our cars and headed to Washington. The state of Washington sucks for putting their state sign in the middle of the interstate instead of on the side of the road so we couldn't stop to get a picture! I was Very sad about this but at that point we said screw it we just wanted to GET THERE ALREADY. We rolled into Spokane, WA around 12:30am. That's when I realized we still had to drive across the entire state of Washington aka 4-5 more hours. It was at that point that I refused to stop. It was a damn mission now and if my mom agreed to keep driving I would drive the other car and we would make it damnit.
Well, my mom is a BEAST and can drive better than any trucker out there and agreed to this crazy mission. I however, started driving and about 50 miles in started falling asleep. I was exhausted and it was getting dangerous even though I was drinking a Rockstar and eating sugar to try and stay awake. That just made me sick and want to pass out even more. CK had to take over driving and he did so good. I say this because I keep passing out randomly for the next 4 hours and was completely useless as a driving partner. In the end we were barely awake but we rolled into J's around 5am. It was a totally HELL DAY and I can't believe we did it but we made it and except for that last day it was an AMAZING time. Hell, even that last day was great due to the fact it was something that none of us will EVER do to ourselves again.
However, I didn't stop punishing the people I love the most there, oh no I had another full day in store for us that I didn't even realize yet. Tune in tomorrow for that one.

You are stubborn like me!! Glad ya'll made it safe! :) BTW... love how in the pic of you and Chad on the wall, the one with the caption "look ma no hands" Olive is looking backwards at the fall ya'll would be making if you slipped!! Wish I could have heard her thoughts or seen the, I am certain, worried face she was making. lol priceless!
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I'm sure was thinking something like "put me down you dumb people we are going to fall and I'm to young and pretty to die." she is a little drama queen for sure hahaha!
ReplyDeleteYou are one BRAVE soul! I have done the drive from Spokane to SEA town a few times and that 4 hours is bad enough. I can't imagine doing the drive you guys did. Glad you made it here safely!
